Magnetic separators are a key element in industries that effectively helps to separate magnetic and metallic particles from various materials.

One of the main reasons magnetic separators are essential equipment in industries is their ability to separate unwanted impurities from materials. In these areas, it is often the case that metallic or magnetic particles appear at some stage during the production process, resulting in a deterioration of the quality of the final product. They also ensure that there is no wear and tear and damage to production equipment. This extends the life and reliability of the equipment and reduces repair costs.

What is the MB magnetic drum separator?

A magnetic drum (MB) separator uses a strong magnetic field to capture and separate magnetic contaminants from the materials that pass through it.

The magnetic drum separator consists of a robust cylindrical body. This cylinder or drum is made of non-metallic material and tends to be resistant to high temperatures and corrosion.

A strong magnet is installed inside the cylinder to generate a strong magnetic field.

Then the material or raw material is brought to the surface of the magnetic drum separator. This rotates and as it rotates, a magnetic field is generated which is able to very efficiently capture magnetically sensitive particles on its shell, thus separating them from the material. The trapped particles are firmly bonded to the surface of the separator, while the remaining material continues on into the production process.

The drum separator is then manually or automatically cleaned and the impurities are removed.

Advantages of the magnetic drum separator

The magnetic drum separator is very effective in separating magnetically sensitive particles, resulting in high quality end products. This type of separator also does not require heavy maintenance or cleaning. Magnetic drum separators are suitable for a wide variety of manufacturing and industrial applications such as mining, metallurgy, recycling, chemical and food processing.

Cleaning the magnetic drum separator

During operation, metallic contaminants adhere to the surface of the separator and must be removed periodically to maintain the efficiency of the separator.

1. Manual cleaning

This method is most commonly used especially for smaller drum separators. Special tools, such as a scraper, are used. This procedure is easy, but requires an authorised person to take care of the cleaning on a regular basis.

2. Automatic cleaning

For production with continuous operation, then a free drum separator with automatic cleaning is ideal. A programmed mechanism automatically removes and collects them in a separate container, which then just needs to be taken out once in a while. Incidentally, you can see this in our animation.

The material, which includes the red marked iron particles, enters the MBZ magnetic box separator through the opening at the top of the separator.

These fall onto a rotating magnetic drum located in the cabinet structure. On impact, the metal particles are trapped on the rotating magnetic drum.

When the material together with the metal particles reaches the bottom phase, the material falls off separately into the left chamber and the particles continue on. Only in the next rotation phase do they also separate from the drum, but fall off into a separate and distinct chamber.
